While these SUVs are different, they do pack the same engine under the hood. Both the Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L come with 3.6L V6 engines. While this is the case, their outputs are slightly different. While the Grand Cherokee pumps out 293 horsepower, the Grand Cherokee L pumps out 290 horsepower.

As these SUVs produce slightly different horsepower and torque figures, it also makes sense that their towing capacities vary. From behind the wheel of the Grand Cherokee, you can haul up to 3,500 pounds. Though, the Grand Cherokee L comes ready to tow up to 6,200 pounds. Although these capacities are different, either will prove able to handle the jet skis, 4-wheelers, and other necessities for your weekend excursions.

Multimedia & Entertainment

When taking a seat in the cabin of either the Grand Cherokee L or Grand Cherokee, you will find impressive but different multimedia systems. The Grand Cherokee L comes with a Uconnect^® 5 and the Grand Cherokee comes with a Uconnect^® 4. There are some surface-level differences, such as in screen size—8.4-inch display in Grand Cherokee L, 7-inch display in Grand Cherokee—but there are also some functionality differences.

For example, the Grand Cherokee L’s multimedia system comes with a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. This will allow you to remain connected, no matter where you have set your destination. This feature is available in the Grand Cherokee but has to be added.

Space & Dimensions

As SUVs, it comes as no surprise that both vehicles impress with their size and space. The Grand Cherokee comes with 105 cubic feet of passenger volume, while the Grand Cherokee L comes with 152 cubic feet of passenger volume. This extra space is due to the third-row seats added in the Grand Cherokee L.

Behind the front row of either the Grand Cherokee or Grand Cherokee L, you’ll find plenty of space for luggage, gear, and more. To access it, you will need to fold down the rear seats in both SUVs.

So, both options from Jeep will prove versatile in their dimensions.
