When you pop the hoods on the Compass and the Rogue, you will find similarly impressive setups. While both are impressive, you will find that the engines are a bit different. For example, the Compass features a 2.4L Tigershark® MultiAir® 2 4-cylinder engine, while the Rogue comes equipped with a 1.5L Variable Compression Turbo (VC-Turbo™) 3-cylinder engine.

Despite the size disparity, both are ready to pump out 175-plus horsepower and more than 170 lb-ft of torque. So, you will have a similar performance behind the wheel in terms of the muscle you can expect to have on your side.

You will find a difference when it comes to the transmissions featured in these two SUVs, though. The Rogue comes with an Xtronic® CVT (continuously variable transmission) that does not use normal gear ratios. Conversely, the Compass comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission, which will provide a more traditional shifting experience, particularly helpful for towing.

The Compass offers another available transmission in its lineup, as well. If you’re looking to enhance performance behind the wheel, you could explore adding the optional 9-speed automatic transmission, which adds extra gears to help with crawling when off-roading. Unfortunately, the Rogue only offers one transmission, not giving you much say in this matter.

Ready for Any Road

As SUVs, it is important that the Compass and the Rogue are versatile. Both can do so with their available 4x4 or all-wheel drive (AWD) systems. The Rogue offers available Intelligent All-Wheel Drive, while the Compass offers an optional Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System and a Jeep Active Drive Low 4x4 System. By adding either of these systems to your SUV, you’ll be ready to handle adverse terrain.

While this is the case, the Jeep does go above and beyond when it comes to capability. In the Compass lineup, you will find a Trailhawk trim level that comes with Jeep’s Trail Rated® badge, signifying off-road excellence in categories, such as:

In terms of climate control, both the Jeep Compass and Nissan Rogue offer available dual-zone climate control systems. The Compass and Rogue also both offer optional heated front seats, rear seats, and even steering wheels.

Where you will find a difference, though, comes on the exterior. The Compass’s exterior mirrors come standard with a heating element, which will make it easy to defrost them as you get in and ready to go. The Rogue offers them, as well, but they do not come standard.

Each of these SUVs also comes configured with a number of driver-assistive technologies, which will work to provide an easier and safer drive. In fact, both the Compass and Rogue come with lane-keeping technology, providing you with a warning if you start to drift.

As part of the Jeep’s standard Active Lane Management System, though, you will also get technology that can autonomously keep the SUV centered should you start to drift. This system will come in handy on long highway drives, either on the daily commute into the city or even during weekend road trips. This type of tech is available inside the Nissan Rogue, but you will have to upgrade to get it.

Staying Connected on the Go

Wherever you set your destination, the Rogue and the Compass will both prove capable of keeping you connected to the world around you.

Both SUVs feature impressive multimedia systems that offer Android Auto™ and Bluetooth® compatibility through which you can connect your mobile device.
